Membership

You may also use the button on this page to view and download the Membership Application Form. New joiners will need to fill in a physical form, but subsequent annual renewals are managed through email.

The Membership Year for Durham & District u3a is 1st April to 31st March. However, if you join between 1st January and 31st March, your membership lasts until 31st March of the following year, giving you up to 15 months for your subscription.

Due to the healthy financial position of our u3a, the annual subscription for 2026/27 has been reduced from £11 to £5 for both new joiners and existing members. This will be reviewed on an annual basis.

The charge to attend group meetings is normally about £2 per visit, to cover costs such as room hire . Some groups, such as Wine Tasting, may cost more and some, which don’t need to pay for a venue, are free.

To find out more, come to a General meeting. These are held on the last Thursday of the month at Bowburn Community Centre, DH6 5AT. The doors open at 1:15 and the formal event normally starts at 2:00, so there is time to look at Group notices and talk to Group leaders. Previously there has been a £2 entrance fee, but this has been suspended until at least the end of 2026 because of the aforementioned financial position.
