Durham & District u3a was formed in 2024 from a merger of Dunelm u3a and Durham u3a. u3a is short for the University of the Third Age. We are affiliated to The Third Age Trust, the national representative body for all u3as in the UK (website here www.u3a.org.uk).

We are a Durham City based organisation in the North East of England and our membership is drawn from the surrounding area.

The u3a approach is based on learning for pleasure. There is no accreditation or validation and there are no assessments, exams or qualifications to be gained. We provide a mechanism for people of all backgrounds to come together in groups to share their experience, skills and hobbies.

There is a General meeting once a month and we have interest groups that meet regularly in various locations in and around to the city.
